Are you a honey enthusiast? If so, you probably already know that honey comes in many different varieties of color, texture, and flavor. Not everyone knows this.
Once upon a time…a long time ago…I used to think I didn’t like honey.
People used to rave about it and I just didn’t get what all the fuss was about. Turns out the honey I was familiar with was store bought “funny honey”. For those who don’t know, most of the honey in the supermarket aisle is crap from China that is far from natural. Blah!
Turns out I had never experienced true raw honey. I never knew that there were different varieties and flavors. Once I got a taste of pure raw honey, and all the different varieties, I was hooked!
So without further adieu, I am proud to present three “must-have” jars of honey.
1. Organic Orange Blossom from Mikolich Honey – San Diego, California.
This is my choice for the best local honey. This light and refreshing honey comes from organic orange groves here in Southern California. I like to add a spoonful or two to a cup of tea. My husband adds it to his oatmeal at breakfast. For nearly 40 years, Mikolich honey has been harvesting the highest quality honey in a variety of different flavors. You can order online or (if you live near San Diego) catch them at the next farmers market near you.
2. Winter White Honey from Savannah Bee Company – Savannah, Georgia
This is my choice for the best exotic honey. I never knew honey could be like this. Imagine pure heaven in a bottle. It’s smooth, creamy, and frosting-like honey. I like to drizzle it over raisin bread. It’s like a desert on it’s own, but you can also try it out on your next batch of home made pastries.
3. Habanero Honey from Glory Bee – Eugene, Oregon
This is my choice for the best flavor infused honey. Now I know there are a lot of honey experts out there who frown upon flavor emulsions. My husband, for instance won’t go for any honey that is infused. I on the other hand, love the combination of this super sweet and spicy honey creation. It’s a bit granular and has a thick viscosity, but it is heaven on cheese and crackers.
So there you have it. Three must have honey jars for your kitchen. Live in San Diego? Don’t want to order online? No Problem! Check out KNORR Bee Keeping Supply.
