Project Description
Out in the East County of San Diego we have a neat place called Gillespie Field. It is the largest as well as oldest of our 8 airports in San Diego County.
We were called out to one of the hangers to take care of a super swarm. It was an emergency call and we were able to make it there within 15 minutes.
Usually on a swarm like this one it would’ve been a cinch to box it up and relocate it. But in this case the bees were discovered when the maintenance crew opened a hanger door in which the bees were attached to. Once disturbed the bees fell in clumps all over the ground. This in turn prevented the crew from being able to get an aircraft out.
The photo only shows a portion of the bees. After 40 minutes we had taken care of their bee issue and they were able to get back to work safely.
