As some of you have already heard, Jeff was interviewed by Chris Merrill this morning on KOGO radio AM 600. The topic of conversation centered around three recent bee and wasp attacks in Southern California. For those of you who are unable to view or listen to the interview, here is a recap of what was discussed.
Is this the time of year when we see more bees? Yes! We are at the start of the current bee season for 2014. Typically the bee season starts in spring and swarms are most active in spring and early summer.
What can you do if you are attacked by a swarm of bees? The key is to get as far away from the bees or enter a defensible space to separate yourself from the bees.
If bees build a hive inside your roof, could that cause honey to melt into the ceiling? Yes. It happens. Sometimes if an active or an inactive hive is exposed to high temperatures during the height of summer, it can melt. This can cause structural damage to the ceilings and sometimes down the wall and into the base boards.
Can you eat the honey? Not recommended. In addition to the drywall and insulation that the hive may have come into contact with, the hive may have also been sprayed with pesticides in the past.
