It is with great pride I present this week’s video of rescued bees being dropped at the farm. Due to popular demand we decided to show another swarm being dropped off at the bee clinic. The last video we posted a few weeks ago was great, but the swarm was rather small. The swarm in this clip is much bigger. It took a lot more shaking, tapping, and thumping to get all the bees out of this box.
For those who don’t already know, we drop off the wild bees at a “bee clinic” where they will be re-queened with certified Italian queen bees. Once the queen lays new eggs, the colony becomes genetically more docile and therefore more suitable to be relocated to a farmer, apiary, or beekeeper.
We are not scientists, nor are we expert entomologists…but it definitely feels like there is a bee shortage this year. We are hoping a wet winter (possibly an El Nino) will help increase the number of swarms next year. In an effort prevent the bees from leaving the box you will notice that some baby powder is sprinkled on the bees during the transfer. This helps prevent the likelihood of the colony leaving the box. Got any tips on how we can make these videos better? Or maybe you have a cool tip on how to prevent bee loss at a bee farm? Let us know…we value your feedback!
Our goal at Bee Best Bee Removal is to save as many wild bee swarms and hives as possible. We hope you enjoy watching the video as much as we enjoyed making it!
