Ever wanted to be a “fly on the wall”? You know the saying. We have all heard it before. The phrase is applicable to those situations where we wish we were able to witness something we wouldn’t normally be able to watch. Well maybe it’s just us, but we here at Bee Best Bee Removal have always wished we could “be a bee” in the hive. Sorta like the movie “Bee Story”, but a lot more realistic. Well guess what! Now we can all get a “bees eye” view from INSIDE THE HIVE.
It is with great pleasure that we are proud to announce a project that has been in the works for some time. Welcome to “Inside the Hive”. Get up close and personal with a swarm of bees that we just placed inside our custom made, top bar hive box. It is a specially designed top bar hive box with a plexi glass window on one side. This makes for great viewing and allows for more light to enter the interior of the hive box.
Unlike traditional commercial hive boxes, our top bar hive is not stack-able. It is specially designed for hobbyists and back yard beekeepers. Our top bar hive box is specially equipped with a customized night light. This allows for great viewing…even at night!
Another great feature of this custom hive box is the addition of a specially designed camera. This tiny camera gives viewers a front row seat, right in front of the bee colony. Check out this video clip of day 1 (July 2nd) when we added our swarm to the box.
The best feature of our new project is that our hive box is equipped with 24 hour live streaming. This allows viewers to log in anytime to watch the bees as they work on building their hive.
That’s right! Log in anytime and take a peek of the real time live video feed. Any time of the day! Check out our YouTube channel any time, any day. Please note that the best viewing times are during daylight hours, Pacific Standard Time.
Why go live?
Our decision to create a 24 hour live stream was inspired by other live streaming animal cameras. One in particular was when April the Giraffe was expecting her baby. We searched all over the web and found only one live bee hive feed. The quality wasn’t great and it was very hard to see. We thought it would be awesome to be able to provide the first ever high quality live stream, starting from a young swarm to a fully established hive. Since we are bee fanatics we also thought this would be a great opportunity to promote backyard bee keeping as a way to help save the bees.
What You Can Expect:
Over the next few weeks you can expect our swarm to begin building their hive. In the first 3-4 weeks they will start building wax cells at the top of the frames. Once the cells are built, the queen will start laying eggs inside the cells. These cells filled with eggs are known as the “Brood Comb”. After the brood comb is built, the bees will fill the cells with pollen and honey.
