Last month (July, 2015) was a crazy month for weather. If you live in San Diego, you know what I mean. I’m talking about the mid month summer storm that broke weather records.
Because of that storm, California has now exceeded, in July, the average annual rainfall for the year. Finally a small surplus after so many years of drought! On one of the days, meteorologists proclaimed that the rainfall was actually the highest one day total (in July/San Diego) since 1939. So what does this all mean?
Well, for starters it’s a good thing for bees! More rain equals more flowers. More flowers and water increase the number of swarms produced by a queen bee. With all the current water restrictions putting a strain on the feral bees, this freak storm couldn’t have come at a better time. The really good news is that it looks like there will be more rain to come.
Take a look at this footage of the storm we captured outside the office of Bee Best Bee Removal:
In much sadder news, early last month, news broke that Burt Shavitz died at the age of 80. Most people recognize Burt as the founder, name, and image for the Burt’s Bees line of products. In reality, Burt was more than a name or image…he was the real deal.
Burt lived his life to the beat of his own drum. His passions included bees, nature, land, and his golden retriever. Material possessions held little value for the eccentric icon. Burt was the type of man who practiced what he preached. Although he received 4 million dollars from the sale of his company, he continued to live a modest life and stayed true to his beliefs.
