We love to save bees. It’s what we do! When we remove swarms, there are a few different methods we utilize, depending on the situation. A lot people think smoke is the best way to remove bees, but in reality smoke is best for established hives…not swarms.

So what are some ways to remove a bee swarm?

1. You can brush the bees into a bee box.
2. You can shake them off into a bee box.
3. You can clip the tree branch and place the entire cluster in a bee box.

Or you can use a Bee Vacuum.

Right now you may be thinking “What the heck is a Bee Vacuum?”.  Basically a Bee Vac is a specially designed Vacuum that has been modified to capture bees alive. A regular shop vac is too strong which causes most of the bees to die in the vacuum chamber. That’s why it’s so it’s important to use a modified bee vac that utilizes a gentle suction and pulls the bees into a vented bee chamber.

The Bee Vac we use is The Hive Savers Portable Bee Vacuum. Take a look at the video above to see the Bee Vac in action. We used the Bee Vac to remove bees off of a hive inside an irrigation box. On this particular job, the Bee Vac was the best method to remove the bees alive.
