Did you hear about the color changing dress? Of course you did. All of San Diego is in an uproar about it. For those of you living under a rock who don’t know about it yet, you can check it out here. For the record, the staff here at Bee Best Bee Removal is equally divided about the color of that dress.
So with all the hoopla surrounding #thedress, an incredible story of survival was missed by the local media. Meet Paul. He is a San Diego veteran who served as a navy pilot in WWII. He also just survived a killer bee attack!
So how did this happen? It all started when Paul decided he needed to do some yard work on the back of his property. You might think that at 96 years old, Paul wouldn’t be up to the task. But no, Paul is the epitome of a strong, tough, and determined Navy man!
One of the tasks on his list was to clear the weeds away from the shed. Unbeknownst to Paul, the shed had new residents. Three separate hives and tens of thousands of bees were living right under the floor of the shed. It’s actually quite common for bees to build a hive under a shed, especially when it is primarily used for storage and has not been visited regularly.
In order to clear away the weeds, Paul started up his weed whacker and approached the shed. That’s when the bees started to pour out from under the shed. Paul was quickly engulfed by a cloud of defensive bees.
As the bees began stinging, Paul ran toward the front of the property. While the bees were following and chasing him, Paul fell down to the ground. Luckily a neighbor heard Paul yelling and came to his aid. The neighbor helped him up, took him across the street to his house, and called 911.
Paul ended up spending over two days in the hospital. He also ended up with over 150 stings! Luckily Paul is not allergic to bee stings. It’s also lucky that the neighbor found Paul quickly and that Paul is a strong man. Without all this luck, the attack would have surly been fatal.
Check out this clip. Its a quick interview with Paul after he returned home from the hospital.
As you can see Paul is in good spirits and doing well, despite the attack. He is truly a survivor!
